I timed this shoot during a NYC rush hour out at Broadway Junction Station, a big hub for NYC based surfers traveling out to The Rockaways. During the summer months, its not uncommon to see plenty of surfers carrying their boards on the A train en route to the beach. 

I chose this location for the long escalator and diffused lighting on both sides of the stairs, also for the crowds and the sea of people moving in opposite directions simultaneously. The energy is frenetic and fast paced, and that showed with a slower shutter speed and motion blur.
